As the president of the local Toastmasters Club, I am pleased to announce a special free event in celebration of the Rock Hill Toastmasters Club’s 50^th Anniversary in Rock Hill.  The club will present an interactive “Effective Listening Workshop” on November 16th in the City Council Chambers of the Rock Hill City Hall.

The program is designed to help participants become better communicators by learning essential listening skills.  Your Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be entertaining local TV personality Lucas McFadden, and the Workshop will be facilitated by Officers of the Toastmasters Club.

According to a Health Sciences Institute article (http://hsionline.com/2008/10/30/many-health-care-workers-refuse-flu-shots-should-you/), thousands of doctors, nurses and emergency personnel refuse the yearly flu shots that Walgreens® and others are trying to convince us to take. The Health Sciences Institute article indicates that the Associated Press reports that well over half of these health care professionals say “no” to the flu shots. The article goes on to cite a UCLA/Harvard survey of health care workers on the reasons they refuse, which boils down to two major reasons. First the dangers of side effects from the shots and second is ineffectiveness.
If they don’t get the shots themselves, then what’s the message between the lines? So before you let your local pharmacy or physician shoot from the hip, perhaps you should do some objective reading on the subject.

No, it isn’t the title of Stephen King’s latest thriller/chiller, but it could be.  Although frighteningly dangerous, “texting” has become an all too common behavior.

Most of us have already experienced close calls or had accidents involving drivers texting or in some way juggling their mobile phones.  Some states have already passed regulations about the practice and those legislatures that haven’t need to wake up and smell the coffee!

Now, in an article published this week, Dr. Joanna Lumdsen an expert in human/computer interaction at Aston University, reports that 1 in 10 mobile phone users have already harmed themselves while walking and texting.

More alarming is her finding related to accidents in the U.K.  She reports that in London, two teenage pedestrians are injured or killed every day as result of using mobile pones while walking, she said.  To read the article go to:
