About 6 ½ years ago we chose Rock Hill among many fine places we could have gone to locate our practice in South Carolina.
It was a time when the local and national economies were going over the cliff. The unprecedented and unexpected crash was having an impact on nearly everyone and gloom and doom forecasts were everywhere. Wall Street, the banking system and the economic experts had all let us down and the government was stepping in to bail out the big offenders while people were wondering how they were going to hold it all together for their families.
Since then people have weathered the blow, the administration in Washington has changed and slowly but surely the economy has been recovering. As a member of the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation Board I have been fascinated to watch the tone change. You could even see it in the eyes of the movers and shakers of the community. Yes, they were worried, but they took positive steps to turn it around. To its great credit, Rock Hill has continuously moved forward, always with an eye to the future.
Now the winds of progress are being felt like a refreshing warm breeze arriving in the community. One great example is the development of the Knowledge Park, a centerpiece of it all. Stretching from downtown’s historic, “Old Town” on through the old Bleachery site up to the Winthrop University area, the Knowledge Park is an innovative, technologically diverse new model of progress built with an eye to the future and with sustainability in mind.
